Welcome
Nottingham Women’s History Group was formally constituted in February 2010 with the aim to celebrate, promote and research the contribution made by women to Nottingham’s history.
To meet this aim we:
-
Research women’s histories in the City and its localities and encourage others to do so.
-
Provide a programme of activities to ensure that women’s history is visible to the people of Nottingham.
-
Promote an interest in the women who have shaped Nottingham’s history and ensure that women are visible to the people of Nottingham.
We provide a programme of activities each year including regular NWHG meetings with speakers; frequent Member Mailings and Facebook Posts; Displays & Information Stalls at events such as International Women’s Day; Bi-annual Newsletters; Visits to the Archives, Museum Stores, Manuscripts and Special Collections; Special Events such as plaque celebrations; and Walks telling the story of Nottingham women.
We have also published several books including Nottingham – Herstory: 50 Remarkable Women; No Surrender: Women’s Suffrage in Nottingham; Nottingham Women in WW1; A Tribute to Life – Helena Brownsword Dowson; and Helen Kirkpatrick Watts – Suffragette. All titles are available to buy at NWHG events and at Five Leaves Bookshop which is located at 14a Long Row, Swans Yard in Nottingham.
