Self-guided suffrage walk

On 6th February 1918 the Representation of the People Act was passed. The act gave women over 30 who met the relevant property qualification -the occupation of a dwelling house, or of land or premises with a yearly value of £5 or above. In 1928 all women over 21 were given the vote, giving women the vote on the same basis as men.

In 2018 Nottingham Women’s History Group helped to celebrate and acknowledge the brave women, and men, who had helped fight for female suffrage here in Nottingham. This walk continues that legacy.

This Self-guided Suffrage Walk takes you to places to events important in the struggle for women to get the vote in Nottingham, starting at the arboretum and finishing in Market Square.

This walk was created with support from Skipton Building Society Grasroots Giving Programme.

We hope you enjoy this walk and are inspired through it to discover more abouth the brave women who fought for the rights we have today.
